Welcome to my world
A quote from Lou Gehrig:
"You have to get knocked down to realize how people really feel about you. I've realized that more than ever lately. The other day, I was on my way to the car. It was hailing, the streets were slippery and I was having a tough time of it. I came to a corner and started to slip. But before I could fall, four people jumped out of nowhere to help me. When I thanked them, they all said they knew about my illness and had been keeping an eye on me." End Quote.
It is my belief that each of us should be as thankful as Lou Gehrig, the man that ALS is most associated with.
This being thankful is no easy task for those of us who have been given the diagnosis of "Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis" (ALS). The label given this neuron challenge is scary in itself, as is the definition and information given by the history of this disease. However, an attitude of "thankfulness", of remaining as positive and hopeful in the face of this thing staring back at you, provides for better days, or at least getting through each day and new trials.
There are so many new and exciting developments in the medical field right now. One of those is the "Nepsis Stem Cell Therapy" which uses one's own bone marrow, separating the cells into categories, choosing those that will work on the damaged areas, engineering them to go to the exact spots, and then inserting them into the spinal cord column. There are many other fabrications happening today and even though the exact cause of ALS or M.S. is still unknown, the research being done may just open the door to not only the cause, but a cure.
